How to Bypass HDCP When Using Elgato or EVGA Capture Card

HDMI switcher to bypass HDCP

HDCP prevents the recording and piracy of commercial movies and TV shows. Capture cards from Elgato or EVGA cannot capture HDMI signals with HDCP protection enabled. But there are legitimate reasons why you’ll want to capture a video source, like video gaming for YouTube, or a streaming app interface for historical purposes.

To bypass HDCP, all you need to do is run the video source through a HDMI switcher. A HDMI switcher without HDCP built-in will allow you to bypass HDCP. Then connect HDMI from output of the switcher into your capture and you should be ready to go.

Remember to only use this method for legit video capture reasons.
