Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the 1990 live action movie, tells the story of 4 turtles emerging from the shadows of the sewer to protect New York City from a gang of criminal ninjas. The film adapts the early Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics, with several elements taken from the animated series airing at the time. The turtle costumes were developed by Jim Henson’s Creature Shop. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was released theatrically in US on March 30, 1990 by New Line Cinema. It was a box-office success, grossing $202 million on a budget of $13.5 million, the highest-grossing independent film up to that time.
