Attending a comic con event for a first time? You may ask what should I do at my first Comic-Con? No worries. Here’s our guide for you beginners, attending a comic convention for the first time.
The first thing to do is to plan ahead for bigger comic conventions. You should review the convention schedule in advance and prioritize the panels, exhibitions, and events you want to attend. The rest of the time, you can walk around the exhibition hall and check out your interests, whether that’s collectibles, artists, cosplay or comics. If you are attending a small comic con, you can pretty much skip the rest of this guide.
If you are looking to attend particular panels, make sure you arrive early. Lines can be long for popular panels and events. Arriving early will give you a better seat for sessions you’re interested in.
Bring a book bag or suitcase if allowed, especially if you plan on buying lots of collectibles. A hard suitcase will also make your collectibles or signed autograph is in pristine shape when you get home.
You’ll definitely be doing a lot of walking and standing so wear comfortable clothing and shoes are important. Check out our guide on what to wear to a comic con. In short, wear sneakers that won’t make your feet hurt after a day of walking. Unless you are doing cosplay, and we don’t know how those people last all day, you should dress to be comfy rather than to impress.
When it comes to hydration, bring a refillable water bottle. You’ll need to keep yourself energized and hydrated throughout the day. Bring some snacks too if it’s allowed. Some times food and drink lines can be long, so having snacks and water on hand can save you time.
Comic conventions are great places to meet fellow comic-inspired fans who share your interests. Feel free to strike up conversations, make new friends, and enjoy the convention event together.
Lastly, take photos and videos. You’ll want to capture your favorite moments and memories as you attend panels, see cosplayers and celebrities, or look through collectibles and displays. This is a great way to remember your first comic con experience. You may also want to bring a spare battery pack for your phone in case you run out of juice.
One last thing, don’t forget to take breaks when you need to. Find a quiet place to rest, recharge, and take in everything you’ve experienced.
