Philips 226E9QDSB Computer Monitor Review

The Philips 226E9QDSB is a 226E 22-inch computer monitor. It’s part of the E series that also has 24 and 27 inch versions.

Monitor technology has gotten so much better these days that a budget monitor like this one comes with IPS display, HDMI, DVI, VGA ports and audio out. The addition of DVI port is a nice plus as modern monitors are usually HDMI and VGA only. The monitor does not come with speakers, but with HDMI audio out, you’re able to use the screen not only as a computer monitor but also as a small TV screen. Just use a 3.5mm audio cable to get sound out of the HDMI source into your external speaker system. The audio out is a feature that many monitors lack these days.

The overall design is simple and modern. The 21.5-inch screen has a nice matte coating preventing dirty fingerprints. The bezels are 0.5 cm thin except for the bottom part which is 2 cm thick. The stand allows you to tilt the monitor front and back.

There is a single knob behind the monitor for turning on and off. It also doubles as a setting adjustment control. By flicking it up and down, left and right, you are able to customize default settings. It’s actually super intuitive and a fantastic way to avoid having buttons on the monitor.

You can use this as primary or as a 2nd monitor and for less than $100, it’s a definitely worth every penny. Just remember, it’s not designed for gaming purposes.
