Harmony cartridge is an Atari 2600 multi-game cartridge that allows you to load all Atari 2600 games onto one cartridge. You can even play homebrew games by getting the Encore version. And yes, some of us still like to play games on an original console using original Atari joystick and paddles.
The standard type will cost you $39.99 while the Encore one is $54.99. You can also chose between the SD card or micro-sd card version of each type depending on your preference. Is it worth it to you? If you’re a fan of playing Atari 2600 games on your original Atari 2600 gaming console and having all the games in one cartridge without wearing out your original cartridges, this is a must-have.
Harmony cart will read both bin and a26 rom files, even homebrewed games as long as they are under 32KB. Both joystick and paddle controllers should work perfectly. The menu is simple to read and use. However, joystick is easier to use when navigating the menu. Paddles will work but you have to twist the knob very slowly and not hard press the trigger button, like pressing it half way in order to register. Not sure why that’s the case. If you want your game files displayed in alphabetical order instead of the order that it was copied to the card, then you’ll need to download and use a tool like DriveSort.
Once you’ve copied the rom files onto Harmony cartridge, inserted it into your cartridge slot the same way you would with any ordinary Atari game cartridge and start retro gaming. We think you’ll spend way too much time playing Atari 2600 games on your original console, again.
Retro gaming is cool now. You can easily find some of these Atari 2600 classics at the next video game convention.
