Roku Premiere Plus Specs & Review

Roku Premiere Plus streaming media player

Roku Premiere Plus was released at the end of 2016, providing an affordable video-streaming option for those of us who want 4K or HDR capabilities. It has since been discontinued in the US in favor of Roku Ultra. Currently, you can nab a refurbished version on Amazon or Ebay for abour $50-$55, which makes it an excellent choice for 4K capable streaming device.

In addition to up to 4k video playback, Premiere+ comes with HDCP 2.2 HDMI port, HDR support, Dolby digital surround sound, night listening mode, RF remote control with headphone jack, microSD card slot, 802.11ac dual-band wireless, and ethernet port. If you want optical-out audio and USB port, you’ll need to get Roku Ultra.

In our review, setup is simple. Performance is wicked fast as menus load instantaneously. One thing we noticed is that Roku’s menu interface is severely outdated. It’s a bit blocky and you can definitely see digital artifacts now that it’s on 4K TV. Modern UI aside, this streaming device should be an option for those looking for a fast, inexpensive, 4K video playback option.
